![]() ![]() The main difference between a customizable mechanical keyboard and more basic devices is, well, that they’re customizable. Especially if we’re typing most of the day, every day. In one of his videos, Taeha also points out that if we’re already spending money on more powerful machines and bigger, better displays, it makes sense to have a nice, comfortable keyboard to use with them. “Keyboards have never been considered something to invest in, but with the help of everyone staying at home, people are starting to understand that you can make a keyboard a nice tool to work with instead of something that you buy off the shelf for very cheap,” says Taeha Kim, also known as Taeha Types, a custom mechanical keyboard builder and content creator. Well, COVID-19 might have something to do with it. But if you only game on a console or only use your computer for work, you might have never wondered why people would spend money on a keyboard. The gaming community has been in on mechanical keyboards for a while now, as they can provide faster response times and an overall better playing experience. It saved me, and I really want to show my Thanks. Why are people buying mechanical keyboards? ![]() Sorry if it is a large block of text but I really want to show my appreciation to this subreddit, the people in the discords and the hobby. I met a lot of good people who share the passion and it gives me a happy place to be specially this subreddit. Nibble65, Satisfaction75, Mekanisk Tind, Keycult No.1 etc.īut I have to say, this hobby gave back my happiness, imagination and inspiration. I have my dream build, but definitely not the last as there are more keyboards that I would love to build. Today, I have Black ink V2s I lubed myself and a full kit of GMK Bushidos(even if I actually wanted Evil Dolches). Trying to find the dream keycaps set, the dream switches and most of all the dream sound. I became too meticulous on my Fjell build. I found a used set including a lot of extras, Switches(mx blacks), an official Mekanisk carry case, a fancy custom coiled cable and more. Being someone who lives and loves Norway, I wanted this keeb, Keyboard Youtubers made a lot of builds of the Fjell and I wanted in. Now, I had build my 2nd keeb, a dream keeb, A Mekanisk Fjell. Slowly building a beautiful masterpiece only I had. My curiosity and imagination came back and gave my 2nd coming. I was ecstatic, I had the feeling of being a kid again tinkering with the PCs I build back in the day. I went and bought a used kit for a KBDFans 67lite with JWK/Durock lavenders and a set of smokey quartz keycaps. They were pretty good keyboards, but I had a void in me telling me to go for it and take the plunge, thinking that I had the budget and maybe, just maybe it will help me take my mind off my problems and depression. Up until January 2022 I was rocking either a Corsair K100 or a Steelseries Apex pros. ![]() since I was heavy in debt and had crippling depression at that time. When I saw some custom keyboards for the first time and I fell inlove, but sadly it was not the time to get my own custom just yet. and was pretty happy since it was the "premium keyboard"(yeah that clacky, rattly mess of a keyboard). Being the brand I always wanted I bought all razer peripherals like the Razer blackwidow etc. now jumping 3 years, I moved to Norway and got my self a job and started to work on my set up. So, all of my peripherals were basically just Chinese cheap ass brands that would last me atleast 3 months or so, and always kept dreaming about getting a high end keyboard.Īnd in comes Razer, in 2007 I was amazed on how nice and "premium" it felt (I don't know why the lycosa but still). It was always just low end items or old high end stuff. But I lived in a country that does not really pay much and could not afford the top of the line stuff. I was a tech-savvy person ever since I was young and I loved building and customizing PCs from a young age. While I am still relatively new to custom keebs, I had my eye out for them, they look good, sound good and they reflect on what you are as a person. Hey guys, I just want to talk about my thoughts. ![]()
